Tamil Baby Names:Tamil
Boy & Girl Names with meanings
Some Points to remember while choosing a tamil baby boy name:
Tamil people generally use patronym (use of the father's first name as the
second name of the child). It means that the first name of one generation becomes the second name of the next
generation. In most of tamil names, the father's name is used as an initial and
thus the baby's first name may be presented as a second name. When full name of
baby is written, the initial is expanded as last name. So if you are choosing a
tamil baby name for you child, you must ensure that the name of the baby goes
well with the name of the father.
Some South Indians also use inverted patronym in their names. They use patronym
as the first name and given name the last name. Surnames are not generally used in Tamil Nadu.
For tamil baby girls, the system of initials is slightly different. Before
marriage, a girl uses her father's initial, but after marriage, she may use her
husband's initial. With the time, the trend has changed and many women, especially those employed, do not change the initials, but continue with their father's initials.
